Ardisia Japonica
Ardisia japonica or Marlberry is an evergreen groundcover. Low growing wood grows to 8 - 12 inches. Spreads by rhizomes making a dense mat of foliage. Enjoys moist, well drained acidic soil in partial to full shade. Mature foliage is dark green, but new growth is light green, copper or bronze. Small pink flowers beneath foliage in May thru August. Berries are red and persist throughout the winter.
A variegated variety with yelow margins is available.
